Date:
04/04/2011 to 04/08/2011
Description:

Three officials from the Ministry of Labor of Colombia visited the Ministry of Labor of Brazil to gain information on the subject of labor inspection. This cooperation activity was concentrated in the areas of forced labor, domestic work, administrative processes for infractions, and child labor.

Steps to follow include: Strengthening preventive inspection and increasing the number of personnel, strengthening information systems, constructing plans for ongoing training for all officials involved in social protection at the Ministry of Labor, strengthening tools that measure goals in real time, training leaders of coordinating activities, institutionalizing interagency conventions to strengthen management, investing more authority in labor inspectors, and increasing their salaries.

In the opinion of the Colombian delegation, the activity was thoroughly enriching; it allowed for comparing the two models and observation of where great similarities and differences exist. One recommendation would be to establish sufficient time to achieve a study of the model and feedback in a space that would allow for discussion.
