For four days, experts from the Ministry of Labor of Uruguay visited the Ministry of Labor of El Salvador to share their countries’ experiences with domestic work, specifically on how the process of ratification and implementation the 189 ILO Convention in Uruguay went, considering that it was the first country in the world to ratify it.

 

The exchange was held from October 23 to 26, 2017 and consisted of 3 public forums in which at least 300 people participated, including deputies from the Legislative Assembly, staff from institutions that are part of the Technical Committee for the Ratification of C 189: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Technical and Planning Secretariat of the Presidency, Salvadoran Institute for Women's Development, Salvadoran Social Security Institute, Ministry of Health, domestic workers, social organizations, among them, "Las Mélidas ", Interviews with communication media and 3 bilateral exchange meetings with the Social Security Board of Directors, women's organizations, and unionized women domestic workers.

 

The Exchange has made it possible to inform the different sectors of the country about the processes that were followed in the countries where the Convention was already ratified, the advantages and benefits that it has meant for domestic workers in these places and the challenges that have been exceeded for the achievement of the guarantee of their rights, having reached most of the expected results.
