The Ministries of Labor of the United States and St. Kitts and Nevis exchange information and best practices on youth employment programs targeted toward the most vulnerable, and initiatives to promote youth employment.
During this visit, officials from St. Kitts and Nevis had the opportunity to visit the United States Department of Labor, in Washington, DC, where information about the programs of young people in vulnerable conditions were shared. Additionally, they visited the Department of Labor and Training of Rhode Island; there they got to know some of these programs and see them in action. They also received information from the program officials about the challenges, opportunities and better strategies to carry them out.
In this regard, Mrs. Shernel James, labor commissioner stated:
"We thank and appreciate the efforts made by the RIAL/OAS and the disposition of the USDOL to make this cooperation a reality. We return home with more knowledge, more ideas and more than anything, with the conviction that it is possible to create and implement policies and programs that guarantee job opportunities for our youth"
