Protection of migrant workers

This cooperation consisted of a visit by 3 experts from the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MTSS) of Costa Rica to Santiago de Chile to advise the Chilean Labor Directon on the protection of migrant workers, given their recognized experience and knowledge in this area.

This cooperation is particularly relevant considering the increase of migrant workers in Chile in recent times, as well as the decision of the Government of Chile to implement during 2017 a Plan of Action on Migrant Workers, based on an institutional self-diagnosis and aimed at strategic to install the bases for an institutional, transversal and permanent policy of the Labor Directorate in the matter.

The visit of experts was translated into work sessions and training with teams of the Chilean Labor Directorate on the subjects mentioned in the specific objectives.

In its final report, the Chilean delegation indicated that the visit of the experts from Costa Rica was very enriching, since the stated objectives were achieved. They also stressed that as a result of the Bilateral Cooperation Activity, labor programs for migrant workers will be expanded.
