Senator Baptiste-Primus obtained a Diploma in Labour Studies from Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies. She is also trained in Industrial Relations, leadership in Trade Unions, Trade Union organizing, Train The Trainers Programmes, succession planning at the George Meany College, U.S.A.
Senator Baptiste-Primus experience in trade unionism began in 1985 with her election as an Assistant Secretary. Shortly thereafter she was elected as Chairperson of the Women’s Advisory Committee of the Public Services Association (PSA), in 1992 as the first female Deputy Secretary Treasurer, and in 1993 as the first female Secretary Treasurer. Senator Baptiste Primus also served as President of the Caribbean PSA in 2001 and chaired the 31st Annual Conference of the CPSA held in Trinidad and Tobago. In 2009 she was elected as President of the PSA. Senator Baptiste-Primus joined the Peoples National Movement and was elected the Labour Relations Officer of the Party in 2011.
Senator Jennifer Baptiste-Primus was appointed Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development on Friday, September 11, 2015.
