Description:

Experts from Canada travelled to Santiago, Chile to present the Chilean Ministry of Labor how their Mediation System works, especially for prevention of individual and collective conflicts. With this experts visit, the Heads of Labor in Chile organized a training workshop that congregated all the Regional Directors of Labor in the country. The Canadian experts presented their Federal Mediation and Counseling Service (FMCS), its organic structure and operation at the provincial level (decentralized), as well as they shared in great detail all the procedures that need to be follow for an effective mediation and provided training about conciliation methods. In the presentations they also highlighted the difficulties that they faced in creating this Service and the reforms introduced throughout time.

The Heads of the Ministry of Labor of Chile, in trying to adapt the Canadian experience into their own country, created a Mediation Manual that systematized all current instructions and has all the procedures for mediation and their guiding principles. Also, they will continue to foster the specialization from the Chilean mediators and the reinforcement of their abilities in the framework of labor reform in Chile.
