Description:

A delegation from the Ministry of Labor and Promotion of Employment of Peru travelled to Bogota to learn about the Colombian’s Ministry of Labor conflict prevention and resolution program. Some of the topics discussed in the panels and presentations included four central themes: The Special Commission of Conflict Resolution to the ILO – CETCOIT, the orientation and information program about labor rights COLabora, and the Social Conflicts Observatory in the public and private sector. Inside of the presentations, the important role that these programs have in strengthening labor rights and improving the relationship between the Ministry and the citizenry for the prevention and resolution of labor conflicts was highlighted.

In terms of recommendations and results, the Peruvian government seeks to extrapolate this knowledge to create their own Special Commission for Conflict Resolution at the level of the office of Dialogue and Sustainability of the Presidency inside of the Council of Ministers. They are also looking to create synergy with other Ministries in the creation of an Office of Dialogue and Sustainability to be able to bring more support, structure, and increased coverage to solve labor conflicts.
