Three officials from the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security (MTEySS) of Argentina visited the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Welfare of Bolivia to share their experience in coordinating the prevention of child labor and protecting adolescent labor.
Given that the MTEySS is formulating a National Plan for the Progressive Eradication of Child Labor, the experiences shared in this bilateral activity represented an important input for a better approach by the new National Plan for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor of Bolivia.
The participants emphasized that among the main lessons learned and results of this activity: 1. The Ministry of Labor of Bolivia, in the area of the progressive elimination of child labor, was strengthened in its concepts of child labor from the international perspective, 2. There was a transfer of information in generating plans and direct actions in support of working children and adolescents, and 3. It is necessary to generate adequate oversight and compliance by labor inspectors on the issue of child labor.
The participants also noted that Argentina’s experiences serve to aid in the evaluation and reformulation of those actions that the Ministry of Labor of Bolivia has planned and those that need more support. They expect concrete results and achievements that will benefit the vulnerable population of children and adolescent workers.
