Social Security System

The Government of Paraguay is committed to reforming and expanding its social security system and programs and, to achieve that, it has set itself the task of conducting a comparative analysis and evaluation of domestic and international experiences. Thus, through RIAL, Paraguay’s Vice-Minister of Labor and the directors of labor and social security of the Ministry of Justice and Labor traveled to Chile to learn about that country’s social security system. During their visit, the officials met with Social Security Superintendence, the Superintendency of Pensions, and the Social Welfare Institute, and they were able to gain a full understanding of the social security system, including the solidary, contributive, and voluntary pillars of the pensions system, the administration of the pay-as-you-go pension system, the workplace accidents and occupational diseases regime, the content of the current welfare reform, etc.
